Job summary

University Housing at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is seeking an Administrative Manager to oversee interconnected administrative and operational programs and to provide decision support to the Director and Housing Leadership Team.

The role drives continuous improvement of services, coordinates across units, ensures policy compliance, and helps plan budgets, prepare reports, and manage staffing and hiring decisions for at least 2.0 FTE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in administrative operations or program management in higher education.
  • Experience coordinating complex programs across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze information, exercise independent judgment, and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

This position leads continuous improvement of operational services supporting departmental effectiveness, cross-unit coordination, and policy compliance, while providing decision support to the Director and Housing Leadership Team and exercising independent judgment over priorities, systems, and workflows.Key Job Responsibilities:May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expendituresPlans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancementLeads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agenciesSchedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specificationsMay exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employeesContributes to the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsorsIdentifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and proceduresDepartment: University HousingCompensation:$ 6 5K - $ 72 K (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree.Three years of progressively responsible experience in administrative operations, program management, or a related area in a higher education setting.Experience coordinating complex programs, projects, or operational processes across multiple stakeholders or work units.Experience developing and improving administrative processes, systems, and procedures, with the ability to interpret and apply policies and requirements.Demonstrated ability to analyze information, exercise independent judgment, manage competing priorities, and provide recommendations to leadership.Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.Preferred Qualifications:Experience supporting executive or senior leadership and coordinating cross-functional departmental initiatives.Experience managing student employment, recruitment, onboarding, or workforce administration programs.Experience with enterprise administrative systems, including SharePoint, Handshake, StarRez , Microsoft Office, or similar platforms.Experience using operational or workforce data to develop reports, identify trends, and support strategic decision-making.Knowledge of higher education policies and regulations, including FERPA, employment practices, and Wisconsin Open Meetings Law.Education:Bachelor’s degreeHow to Apply:Interested applicants are required to apply online and provide a cover letter and a detailed resume/CV that addresses their professional-level work experience as it relates to all required and preferred qualifications.Finalist candidate(s) being considered for hire will be required to provide three professional/supervisor references through an external reference checking tool.
