Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking an Administrative Law Judge in Indianapolis (46204) to preside over docketed proceedings before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. The ideal candidate will ensure hearings are conducted with integrity and in accordance with applicable rules.

The role requires on-site office hours with flexibility for remote tasks, a 37.5-hour week, and a starting salary of $83,037.00 with potential adjustments for education and experience.

Qualifications

• An earned Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing with the Indiana State Bar Association.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing.
• Ability to work independently and to engage in team initiatives.
• Ability to research, understand, and apply rules, regulations, and legal precedence.
• Ability to maintain an effective, efficient, and productive environment for hearings.
• Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee assigned cases, set hearings, issue schedules, rule on motions, and ensure deadlines are met.
• Act as impartial arbiter, maintain decorum, and ensure a complete and accurate record.
• Attend weekly Commission Conferences and circulate Orders in a timely manner.
• Maintain current knowledge of utility law and stay proficient in legal research tools such as Westlaw.
