The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Program Description

The Laboratory & Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for laboratory and animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum of husbandry, veterinary, state-of-the-art technology, and pre-clinical scientific services. LASP also provides primary support to the NIH Standardized Organoid Modeling (SOM) Initiative to address the need for validated, scalable, and reproducible organoid-based Novel Alternative Methods (NAMs) in biomedical research. Our team provides technical infrastructure, operational integration, and specialized expertise to drive the development and optimization of organoid models of normal (non-cancerous) human tissues derived from a wide range of tissue types and donor sources.

Key Roles/Responsibilities

The Administrative Coordinator III will be responsible for a variety of routine tasks associated with the general administrative and clerical duties in support of the SOM Center.

The Administrative Coordinator III Will

  • Coordinate the procurement of office materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders, invoices, expense requests, and other financial documentation in accordance with company and program policies.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and document meetings, conferences, seminars, and other departmental events.
  • Manage calendars and scheduling for senior-level leadership, ensuring efficient time management and meeting coordination.
  • Prepare and coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements, including expense authorizations, itineraries, and expense reports.
  • Prepare and disseminate administrative reports, documents and correspondence.
  • Design, implement, and maintain electronic filing, tracking, and record management systems to support departmental operations.
  • Develop, update, and maintain departmental organizational charts and administrative records.
  • Track and maintain publication records and related documentation.
  • Serve as the central administrative resource for core inquiries.
  • Be responsible for daily correspondence (telephone, email, etc.) with internal staff and external customers.
  • Perform data entry for project and budget tracking.
  • Assist with special projects, process improvements, and other administrative initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a high school diploma.
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of responsible administrative experience.
  • Working knowledge of administrative office operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams or WebEx.
  • Experience coordinating calendars, meetings, travel arrangements, and administrative activities for staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
