Job description

The Investigations Division of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is seeking an Administrative Assistant 1 to join our Wage and Child Labor Unit.

Who We Are:

The Wage and Child Labor Unit (WCLU) is responsible for investigating alleged violations of Iowa Wage law and Iowa Child Labor law. DIAL's mission is to achieve compliance through education, regulation, and due process for a safe and healthy Iowa. The WCLU contributes to this mission by investigating claims of unpaid wages and ensuring employers provide safe workplaces for employees under 18.

This position is housed within our office at 6200 Park Ave in Des Moines, IA. The work hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. After six months of employment, we offer an option for up to two days of telework each week.

What We're Seeking:

The successful candidate will provide administrative support for the Wage and Child Labor team and support for other units within the Investigations Division. Preference will be given to candidates who speak Spanish fluently.

The duties include, but are not limited to: screening and assigning case referrals, reviewing and packaging investigative reports and evidence, maintaining equipment, inventory, and supplies, providing customer service, accessing confidential databases, and other support functions.

Candidates must be able to read and understand complex instructions related to state and federal policies, as well as internal procedures. The role requires technical knowledge and accuracy to ensure data integrity.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Or four years of education/experience in office support roles involving data handling, procedural advising, or substantive agency support.
  • Or current experience in the state executive branch, including at least 12 months as a Secretary 2, Clerk Specialist, Public Service Supervisor, Accounting Technician, Purchasing Assistant, or Human Resources Technical Assistant.
