Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
  • Two years of experience supervising office practices and procedures.
  • Two years of experience exercising independent judgment and discretion in implementation of policies and procedures.
  • One year of experience directing and training support staff.
  • Two years of experience communicating directly with the public and regulated entities.
  • Two years of experience with Microsoft software products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction of the Plumbing Program Manager, performs highly responsible administrative staff functions for the Plumbing and Water Quality Section.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Performs high level administrative functions to support Health Protection activities and mandates.
  • Serves as office manager.
  • Attends and completes mandatory knowledge-based and practical training required by the Office of Health Protection standard operating procedure and program requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Administrative Assistant supporting the Plumbing Licensing Program. Performs highly responsible administrative staff functions for the Program. Processes license applications and assists staff and industry with problem solving technical and licensure process issues.
