Administrative Assistant/Cashier

Hourly Wage: $18.23/Regular/Full-Time


The Administrative Assistant/Cashier is responsible for numerous Department of Revenue Office functions. These duties include, but are not limited to, record management, customer service greetings, and daily cash management operations in the Department of Revenue on behalf of the Yakama Nation, including all accounts receivable (AR) paid by cash, check/money order, bank cards, and YN Program Deposits. The Administrative Assistant/Cashier will provide positive customer service for all patrons at the Department of Revenue by communicating professionally with all Patrons, program bookkeepers, accounting staff, and managers to obtain account numbers and resolve all receivable discrepancies while maintaining strict confidentiality of work content.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Greet the public and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Responsible for cashiering duties, including handling cash, debit/credit cards, and checks.
  • Enter cash and accounts receivable transactions into the receipting software based upon supporting documentation and provide the depositor with an accurate cash receipt.
  • Maintains accurate financial records to meet audit standards.
  • Processes cash receipts for incoming deposits, for payments made in person, over the phone, and through the mail service.
  • Prepares/Verifies Daily Cash, Card, and Check Batches and deposits to the Central Accounting Program.
  • Responsible for record management of the department's customer interactions, providing all necessary records for reporting purposes.
  • Coordinates daily work assignments and responsibilities with co-workers in a teamwork environment.
  • Provides general assistance to customers regarding the YN Motor Vehicle Registration Program, business licensing, vendor, dance, courtesy permits, and all Petroleum, Hotel, and Tobacco tax permitting and tax collection.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting and recordkeeping practices.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in computer use, specifically Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher, with the ability to monitor the maintenance of a database system.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment such as a 10-key calculator, copier, and scanner.
  • Knowledge of the YN Personnel Policies Manual, YN Records Management Manual, and the YN Finance Manual.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all levels of personnel, including employees, supervisors, elected officials, etc.
  • Highly skilled in Cash Management.
  • Ability to accomplish assigned administrative tasks with general direction.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail in typing, filing, retention/retrieval, and record keeping.
  • Ability to perform independently, maintaining a high level of professionalism and adherence to strict professional and ethical standards, safeguarding the fiduciary responsibility of the Yakama Nation Department of Revenue and all related programmatic operations.
  • Ability to maintain excellent time and attendance to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Ability to follow internal controls and maintain separations of duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of an Associate of Arts degree, preferably in accounting or a related field, or one year of professional accounting work experience.
  • Required to pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
