Job summary

  • Manages special projects and statewide initiatives related to Care Connections reform.
  • Oversees purchasing requests, office supplies, travel docs, records, and equipment coordination.

Administrative Assistant 5

This is a highly advanced clerical position in which the incumbent serves as the executive administrative and operational support assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary over statewide Care Connections operations within the Child Welfare Division. This position will perform advanced and highly responsible administrative duties requiring a high degree of independent judgment , initiative, discretion, and confidentiality in support of executive-level operations and statewide program coordination.

Four years of experience in administrative services.

Experience Substitution:

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties
  • Maintains executive calendars, schedules meetings, coordinates appointments, organizes travel arrangements, and manages scheduling priorities associated with statewide operational activities and initiatives.
  • Provide administrative coordination support related to statewide Care Connections operations, including licensing, foster home certification, recruitment, family finding, matching, permanency initiatives, facility coordination, child placing agencies, and ICPC activities.
  • Reviews correspondence, emails, reports, and telephone communications involving sensitive, confidential, or high- priority matters and determines appropriate routing, response, or follow-up actions.
  • Coordinates and assists with special projects, statewide initiatives, operational planning activities and executive assignments related to Care Connections reform and program operations.
  • Coordinates administrative operational activities including purchasing request, office supplies, travel documentation, records management, equipment coordination and administrative resource needs.
Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee.

Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.

Work Location: Baton Rouge, La- State Office

Louisiana HB 420 requires all prospective DCFS employees to complete and clear multiple background clearances prior to employment with this agency.
