Job Summary

Pay Rate: SEIU Professional Grade 08

Hourly rate: $41.10 (Step 1) - $53.73 (Step 5)
External candidates will start at Step 1

Current Assignment

This announcement will be used to establish an eligibility list of qualified candidates within the System Safety Department.

Administers and maintains the Maximo Health and Safety Environmental (HSE) system safety database and performs Safety Management System (SMS) data analysis in compliance with FTA and CPUC regulations.

Participates in and implements future HSE expansion and enhancements, interfacing closely with the Office of CIO.

Organizes safety reports and forms, enters data into databases, maintains safety training database, and assists in analyzing station exiting data using complex Excel functions.

Processes and logs Unusual Occurrence Reports (UOR), schedules safety committee meetings, and prepares meeting minutes.

Assists in publishing Operation Rules and Procedures (OR&P) and Operating Bulletins, revises safety policies, procedures, and plans.

Acts as department budget coordinator, processes purchase requisitions, invoices, and other financial documents.

Maintains facility inspection deficiency records, submits Requests for Maintenance (RFM), and supports the Chief Safety Officer and staff.

Prepares RFM requests, tracks them to completion, and reports on status and aging. Enters report data into systems, monitors incidents and trends, procures prescription safety glasses, and maintains related records.


Selection Process: This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position. All SEIU members must follow the "Bid Form Process"; failure to do so will invalidate the application. The process includes minimum qualification screening, and may involve skills tests, written exams, or interviews. External candidates are considered after internal applicants.

Examples of Duties

  1. Plans and organizes administrative or management studies related to department activities.
  2. Determines analytical techniques and gathers required information for analysis.
  3. Analyzes alternatives and makes recommendations on equipment, policies, or procedures.
  4. Discusses findings with management and prepares reports.
  5. Assists in developing and implementing department goals.
  6. Conducts special projects related to department functions.
  7. Assists in budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.
  8. Develops and administers administrative programs.
  9. Coordinates activities with other departments and external agencies.
  10. Provides technical assistance on administrative matters.
  11. Develops or uses computer applications for analysis.
  12. Prepares reports and correspondence.
  13. Directs support staff work on projects or daily tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, accounting, economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: Two years of professional experience in administrative, management, systems, operations, or budget analysis.
Other Requirements: Must pass a background check, including fingerprinting and polygraph. Ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. May require a valid California driver's license and a good driving record.
Substitution: Additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. A college degree is preferred.
