The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for protecting public health and the environment through water supply, wastewater treatment, and pollution reduction. As the largest municipal water and wastewater utility in the U.S., DEP employs nearly 6,000 staff and manages extensive infrastructure including reservoirs, wells, and miles of water and sewer mains.
The Bureau of Water & Sewer Operations seeks a Deputy Chief of Water and Sewer Planning within the Division of Engineering, Connections and Permitting. This role supervises 10-15 staff, including engineers and administrative personnel, overseeing water and sewer service connection permits, coordination with inspection, legal, customer service, and cross-connection units.
Note: All candidates must hold a permanent Civil Service title of Administrative Engineer.
At least 10 years' experience in water and sewer hydraulics, familiarity with databases, Excel, GIS, and related tools.
This position is open to qualified individuals under the 55-a Program and offers benefits like Public Service Loan Forgiveness. NYC residency is not required. The salary range is $73,068.00 – $142,671.00.
