State of South Carolina’s National Guard Child and Youth Program seeks an Assistant Coordinator to supervise volunteers, organize activities, and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor events. The role involves coordinating field trips and snacks, and maintaining equipment inventories.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with 18 months of youth programming or military family program experience, plus knowledge of military families and CNACI screening readiness.
Serves as the Assistant Coordinator for the South Carolina National Guard Child and Youth Program. Provides care/supervision, oversight and accountability for program volunteers. Assists in preparing age-appropriate activities; supervises children and youth during indoor and outdoor activities on field trips, outings and during special events to include arranging and serving snacks/meals. Coordinates activities for children and/or youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years. Creates an environment which welcomes participant interest and promotes positive interactions. Implements program options for children and youth with special requirements. Demonstrates, instructs, leads and facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities. Briefs staff, management and parents while on activities. Conducts inventory on equipment and supplies. Interacts professionally with employees, parents and local organizational command personnel. Notifies supervisor of health and safety concerns. Ensures compliance with Federal and State laws, policies and regulations applicable to DoW Child & Youth programs. Executes work in accordance with Federal and State policies and regulations.
A high school diploma and relevant experience in business management, public administration or administrative services. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for required work experience.
18 months of professional experience in youth programming and military family program experience. Understanding of military lifestyles and families.
Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable determination on a CNACI background check, which includes an FBI criminal history background check conducted through the Criminal Justice Identification Services Division of the FBI and State Criminal History Repository checks through State repositories of all States. Knowledge of developmental principles, practices, and age-appropriate programming for youth and teens (06-18). Knowledge of Federal and State child abuse prevention and detection laws. Management & operations skills in event planning, scheduling and supervision. Ability to manage funds, equipment and records/reports. Strong interpersonal and English communication skills (oral/written). Must have and maintain a state driver's license. Works under the general supervision of the Lead Coordinator for the Child and Youth Program who provides general administrative and policy direction. Is encouraged to use own initiative in accomplishing tasks and duties while adhering to the policies of the Agency, and State and Federal regulations. Must actively participates in indoor/outdoor youth programs and diverse field trips which requires walking, standing, bending, stooping and lifting. Overnight and extended stays may be required to support ongoing operations, and during attendance at workshops, meetings, seminars, etc. Mandatory drug testing is required. Must pass a pre-employment physical and maintain up-to-date immunizations.
