Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Programs of the Mexia State Supported Living Center, the Administrative Assistant performs complex (journey‑level) administrative support or technical program assistance work. Work involves disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, and performing internal administrative support work. May train others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Maintains excellent communication with internal and external agencies, including State Office.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures.
Skill in standard office equipment and software.
Ability to implement administrative procedures; to interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, in person and over the phone.
Ability to type at least 60 words per minute.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Initial Screening Criteria
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent, plus 2 years’ experience working for senior level management in an administrative support position.
Attention to detail. Experience in the use of standard office equipment (personal computer, printer, telephone, fax, copier). Experience in the use of MS Word, Excel, & Outlook.

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE).

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
