Job summary

Grand Rapids Community College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Diction for Singers (English and Italian) and Applied Voice Lessons starting in Fall 2026. This role involves teaching weekly one-on-one voice lessons and preparing students for various performance opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Music—Vocal Performance and experience teaching students of diverse backgrounds. The position promotes an inclusive environment and requires adherence to College policies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music—Vocal Performance or comparable degree is required.
  • Successful applied voice teaching experience to students at varying stages of vocal development is required.
  • Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skill levels is needed.
  • Participation in professional development activities to remain current in the field is necessary.
  • Teaching experience at a community college is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach GRCC course offerings in Diction for Singers and Applied Voice Lessons.
  • Prepare students for juries, recitals, auditions, and other performance opportunities.
  • Communicate with the collaborative pianist faculty and ensemble directors.
  • Mentor students in vocal technique and healthy voice practices.
  • Follow College policy on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Skills

Expert knowledge of IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
Expertise in vocal pedagogy and vocal health
Knowledge of broad and diverse repertoire for voice
Experience teaching and performing vocal diction in multiple languages
Basic piano proficiency sufficient to teach applied voice lessons
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and faculty team
Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Gmail, Canvas, Blackboard)
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Education

Master’s degree in Music—Vocal Performance or comparable degree
