Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center seeks a Recreation Therapist to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic and education-focused recreation services to restore and rehabilitate patients. The role involves collaborating with staff to promote engaging activities aligned with patient goals and departmental programs.

The position is Full-Time, days, 8:00–5:00, with benefits including PTO, health/dental insurance, retirement plans, disability cover, tuition reimbursement

Qualifications

• Education: B.S./B.A. or M.S./M.A. in Occupational, Recreational Therapy or Vocational Counseling required.
• License commensurate with the degree; Member of NTRS or ATRA preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of Recreational Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Plan activities and adapt to the environment for diverse conditions.
• Develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans with measurable goals.
• Complete documentation on time per hospital policies.
• Coordinate discharge planning with patients, families and therapists.
• Create and coordinate programming for various ages and diagnoses.
• Assist with coordinating outpatient recreational programs as requested.
• Supervise student interns and support growth activities.

Job Overview

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic, educational and diversionary recreation services to restore, remediate and/or rehabilitate effects if illness and disability. Through the provision of therapy, programs, resources, and support staff work with patients to encourage the development of satisfying recreational interests and skills for participation in departmental recreational programs.

Qualifications

Required:

• Education: B.S./B.A. or M.S./M.A. in Occupational, Recreational Therapy or Vocational Counseling required. License commensurate with the degree; Member of NTRS or ATRA preferred.

Essential Functions

• Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions Tact, enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility and judgment in performance of duties
• Performs developmentally/functionally appropriate assessment according to standards of practice to determine course of treatment. Plan, implement and evaluates treatment plans
• Completes all documentation on time according to hospital and department policies. Goals are written in functional and measurable terms.
• Develop treatment plans reflecting collaboration and communication with patient, family and team. Provide discharge planning services including the provision of developmental and/or community organizational resources in conjunction with therapists. Attends and participates in departmental Treatment Team as required.
• Develop, coordinate and implement appropriate programming for a variety of age and diagnostic groups, matching development level, interests and abilities.
• Assist with coordinating outpatient recreational programs if requested.
• Supervises and/or assists student interns as designated.
• Assist with personal, department and hospital growth and development through involvement in research, professional organizations and presentations to promote best practice and maintain certification.
• Assist with the coordination of programs and projects enabling the department and hospital to meet the mission and meet or exceed their goals.
• Maintains current status with all hospital and departmental educational requirements and competency testing.
