Job Description
The Adjunct position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members, and requires strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups with complex material.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses as scheduled.
- Design curriculum embracing diversity in all forms to foster student talent while modeling inclusive teaching strategies.
- Consider individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
- Participate in the identification of students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing appropriate resources.
- Use technology appropriately to meet course objectives and communicate expectations to students.
- Keep accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
- Maintain attendance records, submit grades timely, and communicate progress feedback to students throughout the semester.
- Distribute and maintain accurate syllabi that include all departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
- Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
- Employ assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
- Engage in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson regarding teaching duties and professional development.
- Create a positive classroom atmosphere encouraging active, collaborative learning, student effort, and academic challenge.
- Use technology to aid communication with students.
- Encourage a sense of community among students both inside and outside the classroom.
- Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
- Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited program in the discipline.
- One to two years as a Respiratory Care Therapist (RCT); Registered Respiratory Therapist credentialed through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensed by the Ohio Medical Board.
- Knowledge of a Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard).
- Intermediate familiarity with Office Suite.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or demonstrable ability to obtain access to work sites.
Compensation
- $56.88 per contact hour.
- One contact hour equals two hours of instruction.
- Maximum of 12 contact hours per week.
- Position: Part‑time.
