Primary Objective:

Consider joining Daley College Continuing Education Department as a Part-Time Art Instructor focusing on young adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) in our After 22 Program. Daley College's Continuing Education Department has an exciting opportunity for an engaging, energetic and patient instructor to teach art to adults with ID. The Art Instructor will develop and implement an appropriate and engaging curriculum by taking into consideration the unique abilities and interests of each participant, helping to inspire the next generation of artists and innovators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop art instruction curriculum and weekly lesson plans that utilize a variety of art-making techniques and meet participants’ abilities and interests.
  2. Ability to teach using different methods and teaching styles, ensuring that participants are fully engaged.
  3. Inspire, motivate and foster confidence in all students.
  4. Discuss and demonstrate the relevance of art and creativity in other areas of life and in the surrounding community.
  5. Connect the arts with other industries, such as science, technology, engineering and math.
  6. Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, board rules and policies and procedures.

Qualifications - External

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One year teaching and/or training experience in appropriate discipline preferred. Experience working with people who have ID is preferred, but not required.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of students and staff.
