Qualifications

  • At least three years of successful teaching experience with adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and appointment letter.
  • Complete all division and university-required trainings.
  • Evaluate and select teaching materials; prepare lesson plans and course materials.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus covering course objectives, learning outcomes, methodology, attendance policies, texts, assignments, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, materials, and communicate with students.
  • Deliver course content using varied teaching styles and design engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications.
  • Maintain enrollment, attendance, assessment, and grading records; submit class rosters and grade sheets by established deadlines.
  • Create an innovative, responsive learning environment while maintaining classroom control.
  • Encourage use of course evaluations and use feedback for improvement.
  • Attend meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as directed by senior academic officers.
  • Participate in orientation sessions to learn about the institution’s mission, philosophy, policies, and LMS.
  • Meet with leadership and staff to discuss course progress, curriculum development, and operational functions.
  • Adhere to university policies and guidelines concerning academics and conduct.

Job Overview

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution offering a range of undergraduate and graduate programs. This position is for a part‑time, temporary Adjunct Instructor who will teach Test Preparedness workshops and/or courses aligned with the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) assessment.

Employment Conditions

Temporary employment that may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Benefits are not provided due to the temporary nature of the appointment.
