Job summary

Alvin College is seeking an Adjunct, Process Technology Instructor to provide classroom and hands-on instruction across process technology areas, connecting theory with real-world industry practice. This is a part-time pool with a maximum 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities include delivering course content, evaluating student performance, maintaining records, promoting safety and workforce readiness, and adhering to college policies. Travel to main campus and offsite locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering or Associate’s degree in Process Technology or equivalent.
• Five years of non-teaching chemical plant work experience.

Position Summary

This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year. The Adjunct, Process Technology Instructor will primarily provide classroom and hands-on instruction in all areas of Process Technology, including process operations, industrial equipment, instrumentation, safety practices, troubleshooting, and industry-standard procedures. The instructor will prepare students for employment in the petrochemical, refining, chemical, and related process industries by connecting technical concepts with practical, real-world applications and current industry practices. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide classroom, laboratory, and hands‑on instruction in Process Technology using current industry practices and equipment.
• Develop and deliver course content in accordance with approved curriculum, course outcomes, and departmental standards.
• Demonstrate proper operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance concepts related to process equipment and systems.
• Emphasize workplace safety, environmental awareness, regulatory compliance, and safe operating procedures throughout instruction.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, laboratory activities, demonstrations, and other appropriate assessment methods.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required course documentation and submit records according to college deadlines and procedures.
• Maintain current knowledge of process industry practices and technologies while promoting professionalism, teamwork, communication, and workforce readiness among students.
• Provide recommendations to the Instructional Dean, Department Chair, and appropriate college committees regarding curriculum, instruction and division operations.
• Adhere to Alvin College’s policies and procedures.
• Attend institutional meetings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering or Associate’s degree in Process Technology or Equivalent degree.
• Five (5) years of non-teaching chemical plant work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior teaching experience at the college or industry level.
• Bilingual – English/Spanish.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
• Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
• Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
