Job Summary

The Department of Sociology and Social Work is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position in the Master of Social Work program to teach one or more courses in the area of sociology or social work. Review of applications will occur continually as courses become available.

Job Status

Part time.

Salary

Using a 3‑unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013 - $6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in the area of the graduate MSW program including some general education and service courses.
  • Adjuncts must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching graduate level, including ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students as well as the ability to write syllabi and deliver illustrated lectures.
  • Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible).
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially.
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance.
  • Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties (when requested).
  • Contribute to preparing students for their career and discovering who they are called to be.
Qualifications
  • Education: MSW or PhD in Sociology/Social Work.
  • Experience: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching (undergraduate/graduate) and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
  • Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and desire to work in a Christian university; supportive of the religious and educational goals of PLNU and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement; agreement to live in accordance with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
