Job Summary: The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is seeking candidates for adjunct teaching positions.

Salary

PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013-$6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.

Departments and Programs

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is seeking candidates for adjunct teaching positions in the undergraduate programs (Health Science, Sport Science, and Dietetics) and the (Master of Science in Kinesiology) to teach courses in one or more of the following areas:

• Biomechanics
• Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription
• Sport Management
• Exercise Physiology
• Strength Training
• Corrective Exercise
• Physical Activity and Activity-Specific Instructor (e.g. tennis, martial arts, yoga, group fitness and other specialized activity courses)

Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective undergraduate or graduate teaching. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students and do the following:

• Teach undergraduate or graduate courses
• Invest in students
• Participate in institution activities as appropriate
• Involve students in research or professional experience as appropriate

• Ph.D., Ed.D. preferred; MA/MS accepted
• Experience in professional organizations related to exercise science
• A thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education
• A desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition
• Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination
• Potential for outstanding teaching
• Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
• In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

Additional Information

Responsibilities begin mid-August or late December, depending on the semester. Qualified applicants should have an advanced degree in Kinesiology, Health Science, Dietetics or a closely-related field. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate effective teaching and service and will embrace the mission of Point Loma Nazarene University. A desire to involve students in research is also preferred. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is comprised of 15 full-time faculty members with a strong commitment to high quality teaching, service, and applied scholarship. There are approximately 400 majors working toward one of three bachelor's degrees— Health Science, Sport Science and Dietetics—who are drawn to the department for its commitment to educating students for the healthcare, fitness and teaching/coaching professions.

Special Instructions

The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the department chair will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc. Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicants will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
