Job description

West Shore Community College is seeking adjunct/part-time faculty with the availability to teach online geography courses starting with our Fall 2025 semester, with the possibility of continuing on to teach during Winter 2026 and future terms.

Seeking individuals to teach the following courses:

GEO 130: Geography of North America - The course focus is on a survey of geographic locations and key geographic concepts with a focus on the United States and Canada. A range of geographic theories will be addressed, such as the physical, cultural, economic, and natural conditions found throughout North America. While place-name geography also will be discussed, the geographic concepts identified above will have a greater emphasis than place-names.

GEO 133: World Regional Geography - The course focus is on a survey of geographic locations and key geographic concepts throughout the world. A range of geographic theories will be addressed, such as the physical, cultural, economic, and natural conditions found world-wide. While place-name geography also will be discussed, the geographic concepts identified above will have a greater emphasis than place-names.

Part-time faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities of teaching include preparing and presenting lectures and labs, writing and grading exams, meeting with students as needed, and assigning grades.

Job Duties
  • Instruct students in assigned courses
  • Maintain academic standards and cover all provided student learning objectives
  • Prepare up-to-date course syllabus and materials in accordance with college guidelines
  • Monitor student progress and meet with students as needed
  • Keep adequate and accurate records
  • Use the learning management system to post course materials and grades
  • Enter final course grades online
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geography, or Master's with 18 graduate hours in Geography
  • Online teaching experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Canvas as Learning Management System
  • Experience teaching at a Community College

Accountabilities: Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair, each part-time faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in his/her position.

Compensation: Wage pay for this position is based on degree and course contact hours.
