Job description

West Shore Community College is seeking adjunct/part-time faculty with the availability to teach online anthropology courses starting with our Fall 2025 semester, with the possibility of continuing on to teach during Winter 2026 and future terms.

Seeking individuals to teach the following courses:

ANT 112: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology - This course is a comparative study of culture focusing upon primitive and nonwestern societies. The basic institutions of human society such as kinship, religion, law, politics, and economics are compared to provide an awareness of the relevance of anthropology to contemporary society.

ANT 114: Native Peoples/Cultures of North America - This course provides an introduction to the archeological study of prehistoric cultures of North America, a survey of the major culture areas of North America after European contact, and will conclude by focusing on contemporary issues of importance to American Indians today.

Part-time faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities of teaching include preparing and presenting lectures and labs, writing and grading exams, meeting with students as needed, and assigning grades.

Job Duties
  • Instruct students in assigned courses
  • Maintain academic standards and cover all provided student learning objectives
  • Prepare up-to-date course syllabus and materials in accordance with college guidelines
  • Monitor student progress and meet with students as needed
  • Keep adequate and accurate records
  • Use the learning management system to post course materials and grades
  • Enter final course grades online
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology, or Master's with 18 graduate hours in Anthropology
  • Online teaching experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Canvas as Learning Management System
  • Experience teaching at a Community College

Accountabilities: Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair, each part-time faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in his/her position.

Compensation: Wage pay for this position is based on degree and course contact hours.
