Job summary

Unity Environmental University Distance Education is seeking enthusiastic adjunct instructors to teach online courses for our baccalaureate programs. Courses run five weeks in eight terms and are delivered asynchronously to about 20 students per course.

Candidates should hold a terminal degree (PhD) or a master's with substantial professional experience in environmental studies or related fields, plus experience teaching adults online and using Canvas or similar LMS. U.S. residency is required.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (PhD) in environmental studies, environmental justice, philosophy/ethics, environmental law, policy, or related field; or a master's with ample professional experience in the area.
  • Experience addressing environmental justice, environmental equity, or advocacy in community, organizational, policy, or educational settings.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and basic software (Outlook, Word, Excel); strong organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five-week undergraduate courses in Environmental Justice or related topics, online and asynchronously.
  • Provide timely feedback, engage in Discussion Board tasks, and respond to students.
  • Support students in a remote learning environment while meeting course deadlines.

Courses are online and run for five weeks in eight terms for baccalaureate programs.Day to Day Responsibilities:This position is responsible for facilitating engagement in 5-week undergraduate-level courses in Environmental Justice and/or related courses.Courses are taught asynchronously with an average of 20 students per course.Instructors must meet expectations for timely feedback, engagement in Discussion Board tasks, and responsiveness to students.Qualifications:Do you have the skills?The ideal candidate will possess a terminal degree (e.g., PhD) in environmental studies, environmental justice, philosophy or ethics, environmental law, environmental policy, or a related discipline, or a master's degree with ample professional experience in the field.The instructor must also have professional or research experience addressing environmental justice, environmental equity, or environmental advocacy in community, organizational, policy, or educational settings.Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)Must have strong organizational and time management skillsAbility to communicate effectively and appropriately using e-mail and digital conferencing toolsPersonal commitment to the environmental focus and mission of the collegeDesired Skills:Experience teaching adult learners and/or teaching in an online contextExperience using Canvas or other Learning Management System to facilitate learningThe Location:Unity Environmental University's Distance Education curriculum is 100% online. Our Distance Education Adjuncts will teach remotely and are required to reside within the United States for the entire duration of the academic term in which they are teaching.
