Job summary

Lamar State College-Orange is seeking qualified Adjunct Instructors to teach various courses at the TDCJ Polunsky Unit in Livingston, TX. This role requires a Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a Master's with 18 graduate hours in the discipline. Candidates must possess knowledge of teaching methodologies and good time management skills. Responsibilities include providing timely feedback, attending faculty meetings, and adhering to college policies. This is not a position for online instructors, and classes may occur during the day, evening, and weekends.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses at the TDCJ Polunsky Unit in Livingston, TX.
  • Provide feedback to students and respond to student communications in a timely manner.
  • Attend adjunct faculty meetings; assess courses on departmental and institutional levels.
  • Complete required training such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification.
  • Take advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to LSCO’s Policies and Procedures Manuals.

Job Summary

Adjunct Instructors must be qualified and competent to teach applicable courses within the degree and certificate programs. Hours vary, depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. This is not a posting for ONLINE instructors. Classes will be delivered in Livingston, TX at the TDCJ Polunsky Unit as a part of the educational partnership between Lamar State College Orange and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Teach courses at the TDCJ Polunsky Unit in Livingston, TX.
  • Provide feedback to students and respond to student communications in a timely manner; maintain ethical and professional behavior.
  • Attend adjunct faculty meetings; assess courses on departmental and institutional levels.
  • Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, etc.
  • Take advantage of professional development opportunities offered by LSCO and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Faculty Development Trainings to continually refine and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures contained in LSCO’s Policies and Procedures Manuals; other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum / Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess an earned Master’s degree in teaching discipline OR a master’s degree in any subject with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies.
  • Possess good time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in higher education is preferred.
  • Related field and/or industry certifications, if applicable.
Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
