The IUE (Institute for Urban Education) prepares and supports exemplary teachers for schools in Kansas City. Components of the IUE include Grow Your Own high school and community college pipelines for prospective teachers, Teacher Preparation for urban schools, and Services to Schools and Teachers, including professional development and teacher support. Job Description

The School of Education at UMKC announces adjunct and adjunct university supervisor faculty positions in Urban Teacher Education for the IUE. Selected professionals will join a collaborative faculty emphasizing excellence in education and educational equity.

Major Responsibilities May Include:

  • Teaching or assisting in teaching courses in initial teacher certification and the high school Grow Your Own teacher pipeline programs
  • Supervising and observing preservice teachers in field, community service, and clinical experiences
  • Assessing candidate performance during field/clinical experiences
  • Serving as a liaison between the university and practicum sites, maintaining positive relationships with mentors, teachers, principals, and faculty
  • Mentoring current and prospective IUE students, including answering questions and assisting with applications
  • Assisting with ACT and Missouri General Assessment Exam preparation
  • Facilitating or participating in IUE Urban Education Seminars
  • Providing professional development and mentorship to beginning teachers
  • Participating in faculty and program meetings
  • Demonstrating knowledge of effective instructional practices for multicultural classrooms
  • Maintaining candidate documentation and confidentiality
  • Traveling within the Kansas City metro area
  • Communicating issues or concerns regarding candidate performance
  • Aligning with the School of Education's mission, vision, and values
  • Utilizing technology such as Canvas, Microsoft Office, and databases

This is a part-time, non-benefit-eligible position. Hours vary based on opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • At least five years of successful PK-12 urban classroom teaching experience
  • Current or prior teacher certification in the U.S.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and transportation required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Over 5 years of teaching experience in Kansas City urban schools
  • Experience mentoring pre-service or beginning teachers
  • Experience with adult learning or teacher leadership
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and database management
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Anticipated Salary Range

Salary depends on qualifications and experience.
