Adjunct Instructor: Core Curriculum - Psychology

The Core Curriculum and Psychology programs at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), along with its affiliate, Mount Mercy University (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) seek qualified applicants to serve as adjunct instructors for Psychology courses in the Core Curriculum.

By applying, candidates will be considered for inclusion in an adjunct faculty pool. Positions are filled on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on programmatic needs.

Course Details and Format

Specific course assignments and formats, including online and face-to-face instruction, vary by semester based on teaching needs. Openings develop on a periodic basis.

We are seeking candidates with expertise and interest in teaching one or more of the following courses:

  • PSYC 145. Introductory Statistics fulfils the Mathematical Inquiry Core requirement. This introductory statistics course teaches students to organize, visualize, and summarize data, then apply probability concepts to address the enduring question: "How can we use probability and statistics to tell if something is just random or actually meaningful?" Students learn to conduct hypothesis tests, interpret data visualizations, and evaluate statistical claims with appropriate skepticism, using technology tools to draw evidence-based conclusions for real-world decision-making. This course requires students to have basic proficiency through high school algebra.
  • PSYC 146. Why Did They Do That? Understanding Human Behavior fulfills the Evidence-Based Reasoning: Diverse Human Experiences Inquiry Core requirement. The course explores the question: "Why is it important to understand what people do and why they do it?" Students examine the complexity of human behavior through multiple perspectives that help explain why people think and act as they do. Through evidence-based reasoning and collaborative analysis, students explore diverse human experiences and develop a deeper understanding of, and empathy for others in a complex social
Qualifications

Successful candidates must hold a master's degree or have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in the specific subject area or a closely related field. Preference may be given to applicants with prior teaching experience.

Due to state employment regulations, candidates must reside in one of the following authorized states to be considered for online adjunct teaching assignments: AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, ND, SD, TX, VA, WV, or WI. Candidates who reside outside of these states may not be eligible for appointment.
