Job summary

SOWELA Technical Community College is seeking an adjunct faculty member in the School of Nursing & Allied Health within Academic Affairs. The role involves teaching and direct instructional activities, preparing materials, and ensuring adherence to LSBPNE guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of nursing experience, with at least six months in direct patient care.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver course content in classroom and clinical settings to nursing students.
• Follow curriculum guidelines approved by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE).
• Provide advisement to assigned students and maintain progress records for each student.
• Evaluate student performance fairly and provide timely feedback on tests and assignments.
• Oversee students’ clinical practice and ensure clinical sites allow students to gain experience.
• Maintain compliance with applicable policies, including pre-employment background checks and professional standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Understand and adheres to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) policies.
• Understand and adheres to policies and procedures contained in the SOWELA Technical Community College (STCC) Faculty Handbook.
• Understand and adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records.
• Understand and adheres to the professional scope, standards, codes, rules and regulations of Professional Governing Bodies:

• Teaching and Direct Instructional Activities
  • Course/clinical materials are prepared using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials)
  • Follow curriculum guidelines as approved by the LSBPNE
  • Keep up to date with NCLEX changes
  • Course/ clinical time organized to be accomplished in the allotted time
  • Instruction provided to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities being performed
  • Attends class/clinical on time and if unable to attend; ensures alternate method of course delivery is available for students
  • Able to deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning
  • Demonstrates varied methods of course content delivery and use of instructional aids

Required Education

• Must maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana or one of the Compact Member States

Required Experience

• Minimum of three years of nursing experience. At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. Must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Must maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana or one of the Compact Member States
• Must meet LSBPNE requirements and pay the required $25 fee to LSBPNE

Preferred Education

• A Master’s degree is preferred

Preferred Experience

• Experience in labor and delivery as well as pediatrics is a plus
• Teaching experience is preferred

Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
