Job summary

Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges System is seeking a RN Nursing Instructor to teach professional nursing courses at the postsecondary level, with responsibility for lectures, discussions, and online engagement. The role includes administering exams, grading, and maintaining course materials.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Nursing, a current RN license in Louisiana or a compact state, and meets LSBN faculty qualifications. Doctoral degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in Louisiana or Compact Member States.
  • Meet LSBN faculty qualifications and clinical agency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach professional nursing courses at the postsecondary level (less than baccalaureate).
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, lead classroom discussions, and facilitate online activities and communication.
  • Administer and grade examinations and assignments; assess student progress toward course outcomes.
  • Update materials annually or as needed and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Maintain accreditation requirements and collaborate with the Dean, Program Coordinator, and students.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understands and adheres to all System and College policies, as well as all policies and procedures within the Faculty Handbook.
  • Understands and adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Understands and adheres to the professional scope, standards, codes, rules, and regulations of the Professional Governing Bodies, including but not limited to American Nurses Association, Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN), Nurses Code of Ethics, and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Responsible to ensure course materials are prepared using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials) and the most recent NCLEX test plan published by NCSBN.
  • Maintain current with NCLEX changes.
  • Utilizes Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS), for posting teaching material, assignments, and grades, ensuring it is organized and available to students.
  • Utilizes established testing platform to administer exams.
  • Course time organized to be accomplished in the allotted time.
  • Instruction provided to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities being performed.
  • Attends class on time and if unable to attend, notifies the Dean of Nursing, Program Coordinator, and students and ensures alternate method of course delivery is available for students, if applicable.
  • Able to deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning, and communicates effectively.
  • Facilitates online activities and communication.
  • Responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course outcomes.
  • Administer and grade exams and assignments.
  • Reviews and updates course materials and/or books annually or as needed, making recommendations to the Program Coordinator.
  • Accepts and completes assigned tasks and duties related to the requirements to maintain program accreditation.
  • Contributes to academic and clinical content for curriculum planning and development of student experience.
Required Education

Master's degree in Nursing

Maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana or one of the Compact Member States;

Meet faculty qualifications through LSBN and clinical agencies

Required Experience

Two years’ nursing experience in concentration hired to teach (Medical-Surgical; Maternal Child; Pediatrics; Mental Health)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and parties outside of the college.
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and make decisions effectively.
  • Ability to model professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance.

Doctoral in Nursing

Preferred Experience

Maternal Child, Pediatric, Mental Health, or Medical-Surgical experience

The RN Nursing Instructor is responsible for teaching professional nursing courses at the postsecondary level (but at less than the baccalaureate). Also responsible for preparing and delivering lectures, leading and moderating classroom discussions, facilitating online activities and communication, and administering and grading examinations and assignments. The incumbent demonstrates and teaches patient care techniques in the classroom, simulation laboratory, and clinical sites to nursing students. The incumbent is an expert in nursing practices with knowledge of professional scope and standards of practice.
