St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a part‑time, 9‑month Adjunct position in the Department of Mathematics, beginning January 2026.

St. Edward's University develops a pool of candidates to work as Adjunct Faculty. There are ongoing needs for adjuncts, but course assignments vary semester to semester. Open positions are posted online and updated as necessary; applicants should reapply every two years.

The successful candidate will teach face‑to‑face undergraduate courses, including algebra‑based or calculus‑based introductory physics and labs, and introductory astronomy as the need arises. Appointments are generally made on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Positions are renewable, contingent upon need and performance.

For consideration, candidates must have a Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Physics or Astronomy. An advanced degree in a related field will be considered if the application clearly documents at least 18 graduate credit hours in graduate‑level physics or astronomy courses.

Essential Responsibilities

Candidates should have an interest in and the ability or potential to teach undergraduate courses, as well as support a diverse student body. Responsibilities include teaching face‑to‑face sections of introductory algebra‑based or calculus‑based introductory physics courses and labs or an introductory astronomy course on campus in Austin, TX. This entails utilizing online homework and learning management systems (Canvas), holding at least one on‑campus office hour per week per section, and keeping in contact with the program coordinator, primarily by email. Course materials are available.
