Job Description

The Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach Critical Thinking in an online format within the Division of Social Sciences. The course will be delivered asynchronously through the Canvas Learning Management System. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering critical thinking skills, pedagogy, and student engagement in a virtual learning environment. This appointment begins Spring 2025.

Responsibilities:
  1. Teach one or more undergraduate and/or graduate sections of Critical Thinking online using Canvas.
  2. Develop and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments that align with course objectives.
  3. Promote student engagement and maintain a strong online presence through discussions, feedback, and virtual office hours.
  4. Keep records, post grades (mid-term & final), submit attendance reporting, and mentor/advise students.
  5. Incorporate teaching practices that support student population.
  6. Adhere to institutional policies, deadlines, and guidelines for online teaching.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the division head.

Required Education & Experience:
  1. Master's degree or higher in Philosophy or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. More than one year of experience teaching Critical Thinking, Logic, or related courses at the college level.
  3. Proficiency with online teaching platforms, preferably Canvas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  2. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to teach online courses, using the various modes of delivery that the university requires.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to all backgrounds in higher education.
