Qualifications

  • An associate degree (or higher) in a health-related field.
  • Prior teaching experience and curriculum development.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning.
  • Current Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Basic healthcare credentials such as BLS.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging instruction in classroom and lab per approved curriculum.
  • Demonstrate venipuncture and specimen collection procedures safely.
  • Evaluate and document student performance with timely feedback.
  • Maintain attendance, grades, and progress records per policy.

Position Description Summary/Purpose :

The Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for providing high-qualityinstruction, hands-on training, and supervision to studentsenrolled in the Phlebotomy Program. The instructor ensures that allcourse content aligns with institutional standards, industry’s bestpractices, and applicable health and safety regulations. This roleinvolves preparing and delivering engaging classroom and laboratorylessons, demonstrating proper venipuncture and specimen collectiontechniques, evaluating student performance, and fostering aprofessional learning environment that promotes competence andconfidence in clinical practice.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in both classroomand laboratory settings following the approved curriculum.
  • Demonstrate and supervise venipuncture, capillary puncture, andspecimen collection procedures in accordance with safety andinfection control protocols.
  • Evaluate and document student performance, providing timely andconstructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student progressrecords in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Ensure that lab materials and equipment are maintained in asafe, organized, and functional condition.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and ongoingprogram development.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with accreditation and staterequirements.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting professionalism andethical practice among students.
Other Functions :
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or assituation dictates.
  • Continuing professional development and training; keeps currentwith trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a teameffort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill :
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, specimencollection procedures, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Understanding of infection control, HIPAA compliance, and OSHAbloodborne pathogen standards.
  • Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate clinical skills tostudents with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the abilityto motivate and support diverse learners.
  • Proficiency in classroom management and student assessmentmethods.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities tocoordinate instruction, lab activities, and evaluations.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, student-centered learningenvironment.
  • Capacity to stay current with developments in the field ofphlebotomy and healthcare education.
  • Proficiency in instructional technologies platform
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

Special Requirements :
  • Valid license & insured vehicle
  • Must have completed a Train-the-Trainer program approved by theCT Department of Public Health.
  • Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle (if travel toclinical sites is required).
  • Must pass background and health screenings per regulatoryguidelines.
