ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – OBSTETRICS
MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking part-time AdjunctInstructors to teach Obstetrical Nursing . If you have passionfor teaching, learning, and are committed to the mission of thecommunity college, consider joining our team. The ideal candidatewill have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing andusing effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverseneeds and engage the student in critical thinking andproblem-solving. These roles may be expected to work at a clinicalsite such as a partner hospital or long-term care facility.

The City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing (CCCSON) programprepares nursing students for the role of the professionalregistered nurse. CCCSON combines nursing theory and practices withgeneral education. Students are provided clinical experiences andcaring for individuals for all ages, through skills lab,simulation, and clinical settings throughout Chicago andsurrounding suburbs.

ESESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve usingdiscipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal and career goalsand foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of peopleand ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveyingconfidence in every student’s ability to learn.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academicand professional communities and promote collaboration and teamworkamong members of these communities.
  • Present effective instruction to students based upon approvedcourse syllabi.
  • Assess and grade students based upon legitimate assessmentfactors.
  • Maintain and submit student attendance records and studentgrades.
  • Hold one hour of student conference time per week for everycourse section taught.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Pursuant to the City Colleges of Chicago Credential Guidelines forthe 2024/25 Academic Year.

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (Obstetrics) required
  • Current unencumbered Illinois RN license required
  • At least 2 years' experience in clinical nursing practicerequired
  • Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similarLearning Management System, preferred
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or onlineteaching certification is strongly preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability tocommunicate with diverse group of staff and students, required
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of thecommunity college
