Job Overview

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career‑focused undergraduate and graduate programs designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers. The Division of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning (UDC‑WDLL) invites enthusiastic and qualified part‑time instructors to teach courses in one or more areas of the Healthcare Administration Pathway, including Introduction to Medical Billing and Coding, Advanced Medical Billing, Introduction to Healthcare and Careers, Intro to Healthcare/Medical Terminology and Anatomy, Electronic Health Records, and Medical Office Administrative Assistant.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as determined by the semester schedule and course contract.
  • Select, evaluate, and prepare instructional materials; develop course materials and lesson plans.
  • Maintain efficient and effective classroom management.
  • Deliver an approved syllabus that includes course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students in a timely manner.
  • Use a variety of teaching styles and create engaging assignments that demonstrate real‑world applications of concepts.
  • Communicate with and refer students to university and division‑wide student success resources and services to help remove barriers to employment.
  • Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, assessments, grades, class rosters, and grade sheets, submitting them by the established deadlines.
  • Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review the feedback, and use it to improve course delivery.
  • Attend all required meetings to stay abreast of pathway‑specific and division‑wide policies, requirements, and expectations.
  • Review and adhere to the WDLL “Faculty/Instructor Guide”.
  • Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director as needed to discuss course progress, curriculum development, and program development input on a regular basis.
  • Adhere to University and division‑specific policies and guidelines concerning academics, student and staff conduct.
  • Provide student progress reports to the Pathway Director.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in the subject matter area.
  • Prior teaching experience in the subject field/industry or demonstrated evidence of teaching potential.
  • Current certification in the subject matter; certification must match the course being taught.
  • Familiarity with certification processes, guidelines, and procedures in the subject area.
Information to Applicant

Condition of Employment: This is temporary employment that may end at any time with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit: Depending on criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.

Employment Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this appointment, the position is ineligible for benefits.
