Job summary

Dyersburg State Community College invites applicants for General Biology adjunct instructors for day, evening, and online classes held in Dyersburg, Covington, Paris, or at one of our other off-campus centers. Initial assignment may be at a teaching location, but the official work station assignment may change each semester.

The successful applicant will become certified and fully use the course management system (eLearn) for all classes.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in General Biology.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and college personnel.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses in Covington, Dyersburg, and/or Paris; prepare course materials; evaluate student learning; maintain class records; submit required reports on time.
• Coordinate curriculum and personnel needs or changes with assigned coordinator/dean.
• Attend required meetings, report attendance, early alert notifications, and final grades by the established deadlines.

The applicant will also attend required meetings, report attendance, early alert notifications, and final grades prior to the established deadline, and will communicate curriculum and personnel needs or changes as appropriate to their assigned coordinator/dean. This position reports to the Chair of Natural Science & PE and the Dean of Arts, Sciences & Technologies.

Requirements of the Position

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach assigned courses for discipline in Covington, Dyersburg, and/or Paris; prepare course materials; evaluate student learning, maintain class records, and submit required reports on time.

Working Conditions

Sedentary: Desk work; occasional travel may be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in General Biology.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and other college personnel required.
