Job summary

Salt Lake Community College (UT) invites applications for an adjunct instructor to prepare and teach Human Sexuality courses in the Family and Human Studies Department. The position is pooled and reviewed as openings arise; compensation is $1,056 per instructional unit.

Adjunct appointments are offered semester-by-semester with no guarantee of continued employment. Responsibilities include developing syllabi with a mentor, delivering course content, evaluating students, maintaining FERPA

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with at least 6 graduate-level hours in Human Sexuality.
  • Experience teaching Human Sexuality courses.
  • Availability to teach in-person courses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach Human Sexuality course material as stipulated in syllabi provided by the department.
  • With a mentor, develop course calendar and weekly outlines.
  • Maintain attendance records and grades for Financial Aid purposes.
  • Provide timely feedback for assignments and return graded work.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful instructional environment.
  • Adhere to FERPA guidelines and ADA accommodations as required.
  • Respond to student inquiries promptly (generally within 1–2 days).
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct in alignment with College procedures.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Department Administrator and a full-time faculty mentor, the successful candidate will prepare and teach Human Sexuality courses as assigned by the Family and Human Studies Department.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

  1. 1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
  2. 2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire.
  1. Prepares and teaches Human Sexuality course material as stipulated in the course syllabi provided by the department.
  2. With the assistance of a full-time faculty mentor, develops course calendar and weekly outlines.
  3. Supports professional commitment to the Department, School and College mission and values.
  4. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
  5. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
  6. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
  7. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
  8. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
  9. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
  10. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
  11. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
  12. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
  13. Maintains professional and collegial behavior
  14. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days)
  15. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure
  16. Completes all required employee trainings
  17. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
  18. Provides ADA accommodations as requested
  19. Other job related duties as needed
  20. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  21. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses. You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

  1. Current permanent resident of the State of Utah or plans to become a permanent resident of the State of Utah, if hired.
  2. Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with at least 6 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in the topic of Human Sexuality.

Experiece teaching Human Sexuality courses in an institution of higher education.
