Northern VA Community College seeks an Adjunct - Graphic Design- Alexandria to teach up to 12 credits in fall and spring and up to 8 credits in summer, using face-to-face, remote, and online formats. Hiring Range: Flat rate paid per credit hour based on the assigned rank: Assistant Instructor ($819), Instructor ($935), Assistant Professor ($1,047), Associate Professor ($1,160), and Professor ($1,249).

Job Description

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
• Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.

Essential Functions

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.

• Adjunct faculty are required to meet assigned classes on meeting dates, submit required grade records and reports, student learning outcomes.
• Classes maybe held during the day, evening or combination of both.
• Excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written Spanish skills

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.

Additional Considerations

• Desired qualifications include having college-level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience as well as having the ability to use instructional technologies;
• Daytime, evening, and/or weekend availability.
