Job summary

NOVA's Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria seeks adjunct faculty for Philosophy to teach courses in face-to-face, remote, and online formats. Adjuncts teach up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring, or up to 8 credit hours in summer; contract contains no guarantee of employment.

Must reside in the DMV area and hold a master's degree or higher. Responsibilities include developing syllabi, maintaining records, and assessing student progress while adhering to NOVA and VCCS policies.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field.
• Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
• Prior experience teaching in higher education is preferred.

Hiring Range: Flat rate paid per credit hour based on the assigned rank: Assistant Instructor ($819), Instructor ($935), Assistant Professor ($1,047), Associate Professor ($1,160), and Professor ($1,249).

General Description:

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Essential Functions:

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area
