Job summary

Northern VA Community College is seeking adjunct faculty in World Languages (Spanish and German) to teach courses in person, remote, or online. Adjuncts teach up to 12 credits in fall and spring, or up to 8 credits during summer session. The adjunct contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Must reside in the (DMV) area. Teach specific classes, develop syllabi and instructional materials, maintain records, and adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies.

Hiring Range: Flat rate paid per credit hour based on the assigned rank: Assistant Instructor ($819), Instructor ($935), Assistant Professor ($1,047), Associate Professor ($1,160), and Professor ($1,249).

General Description

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.

Essential Functions

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
