Job Summary

Welcome to the SLCC Community!! Under general supervision, the adjunct welding instructor will teach and facilitate student learning in a competency-based welding program, preparing students for industrial employment and certifications as required.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Provide instruction and facilitate students’ learning in Oxy-acetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and blueprint reading.
  2. Accommodate various learning styles, especially hands-on training, not limited to the classroom.
  3. Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the courses. Assess students' abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
  4. Collaborate with other instructors in the department to aid in development and coordination of quality classroom activities and curriculum as required.
  5. Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the workforce.
  6. Keep current on technological advances in welding.
  7. Support college and SLTC policies and guidelines.
  8. Maintain good work ethic, punctuality, and attendance habits.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Seven (7) years full-time paid, non-teaching work experience as a journeyman or equivalent level as a welder. May include a maximum of 1 year welding training other than “on-the-job-training”. (documentation required)
  2. Associate Degree in a related field with 3 years experience in the industry and 4 years welding experience.
  3. Must be a current member of the American Welding Society in good standing.
  4. Must be able to read and interpret welding blueprints and know the AWS system of welding symbols.
  5. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following welding processes: Oxy-Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding; Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Requirements:

  1. Preferred experience teaching in competency-based adult programs.
  2. Preferred experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to work without close supervision in a team with diverse membership.
  5. Ability to work within a prescribed curriculum and departmental procedures while maintaining patience, creativity, and cooperative attitude.
  6. Basic computer literacy and use, including word processing, internet, and email.
  7. Journeyman level welding skills using the most common industrial welding processes.
  8. Work in a team environment and support a variety of instructional delivery formats.
  9. Current or previous AWS CWI/CWE credentials are not mandatory but would be a positive attribute.
