Job Description

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Employed in a part-time, semester‑by‑semester capacity, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year, depending on student demand.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction in sterile processing courses at a variety of times and locations.
  • Educates students to develop the skills to work in Central Service or Sterile Processing Departments in hospitals or ambulatory care centers.
  • Maintains adequate records of didactic, laboratory, and clinical hours for each student.
  • Assesses each student to ensure minimum competencies are met.
  • Enhances practical (hands‑on) skills related to the instruments, equipment, and supplies used in various healthcare settings.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages learning.
  • Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
  • Modifies and personalizes tutoring strategies to accommodate learning styles.
  • Delivers feedback to staff and faculty regarding student progress.
  • Completes and submits required forms related to student assessment and clinical externships per affiliate policy in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Teaches Student Success seminars at a variety of times when assigned.
  • Integrates Career Awareness into the curriculum.
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. The employee typically sits comfortably while performing duties, though some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items (e.g., papers, books, or small parts), and occasional driving may be required. No special physical demands are necessary.

Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Uses a PC workstation in a Microsoft Windows environment, along with a calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
  • Interfaces with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out position functions.
  • Work is performed in a climate‑controlled classroom or lab environment with minimal safety hazards.
  • Hours vary depending on class schedules; instructors must meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of work experience in a Central Service, Sterile Processing, or Operating Room environment.
  • Current certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a healthcare‑related field.

Salary

$59.80 per contact hour.
