Job description

Overview

The School of Nursing seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students. In accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and New Hampshire Board of Nursing, the Adjunct Faculty of the School of Nursing fosters the development of required nursing skill competency, critical thinking ability and application of nursing knowledge to practice.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended’ format)
  • Provides students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
  • Provides engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
  • Provides service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and an awareness of new developments in the field in order to update the approach to teaching or content
  • Facilitates pre- and post-conference for assigned students
  • Integrates didactic content into the clinical assignment for the student(s)
  • Achieves consistently effective teaching performance as evidenced by student evaluations/comments/letters
  • Recognizes and addresses different learning styles in collaboration with core faculty
  • Communicates with core faculty on a regular basis to track student progress or to develop performance improvement plan to support student learning
  • In collaboration with core faculty, develops individualized interventions for students having difficulty
  • Collaborates with laboratory faculty to support student remediation
  • Responsible for conducting the clinical evaluation in collaboration with core faculty who has ultimate responsibility for student evaluation
  • Provides feedback to core faculty and clinical placement coordinator on the appropriateness of health care agency regarding teaching/learning environment for students
  • Provides feedback to core faculty on student preparedness regarding core curriculum and MCPHS core competencies
  • Has a working knowledge of the MCPHS SON curriculum and the level of the participating students
  • Attend course-specific orientation on campus with core faculty
  • Participate in clinical faculty mentoring as identified by core course faculty
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor
