Job summary

Central Arizona College seeks an Adjunct Reading Instructor to teach face-to-face reading courses at the Maricopa Campus. The instructor will provide engaging, student-focused instruction designed to strengthen college-level reading, comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and academic literacy skills.

This role requires classroom teaching using Blackboard, development of aligned lesson plans, and participation in adjunct trainings.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 15 graduate credits, or 24 graduate credits in Reading, or a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement.
  • Experience or ability to teach at the college level and design instruction that aligns with outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ENR090 Integrated Reading and Writing and/or RDG100: College Reading courses.
  • Use Blackbaord effectively.
  • Attend Adjunct trainings.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with course and institutional outcomes.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods including direct instruction, online and synchronous instruction with multimedia tools.
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment and maintain classroom discipline.
  • Conduct regular assessments and provide formative and summative feedback.
  • Grade assignments in a timely manner and maintain records.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with students.

Job description

Central Arizona College is seeking a qualified and student-focused Adjunct Reading Instructor to teach face-to-face reading courses at the Maricopa Campus. The instructor will provide engaging, supportive instruction designed to strengthen students’ college-level reading, comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and academic literacy skills.

This position will be located at CAC's Maricopa Campus

  • Teach ENR090 Integrated Reading and Writing and/or RDG100: College Reading courses
  • Use Blackbaord effectively
  • Attend Adjunct trainings
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, ensuring they align with course and institutional outcomes aimed at improving students' reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking skills and writing.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods, including direct instruction, online and synchronous instruction while using multimedia tools to engage students. Prepare syllabi and course calendars and schedules.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable participating. Maintain classroom discipline and encourage respectful communication among students. Address classroom issues such as disruptive behavior or lack of participation in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Conduct regular assessments (e.g., quizzes, tests, reading logs) to monitor students' progress. Provide formative and summative feedback on students' reading skills and offer guidance for improvement.
  • Grade assignments, quizzes and exams in a timely manner and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Demonstrate and maintain effective communication with students
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree with either 15 graduate credits, or a combination of 24 credits of graduate and upper division undergraduate credits in Reading from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills, ability, and experience in adult developmental education.

Position Start: Spring 2027

Salary: $900/Credit Hour

Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification. The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.
