Job summary

A community college in New Mexico is seeking an adjunct instructor to support the Building and Construction Technologies program. Qualifications

  • Experience may be substituted for education on a year‑to‑year basis.
  • Preferred: teaching experience in post-secondary or community college settings; curriculum development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with continuous improvement of the Building and Construction Technologies program.
  • Prepare and provide all lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction.
  • Monitor student attendance and retention.
  • Maintains daily lesson plans and attendance records.
  • Grades assignments and issues final grades promptly.
  • Provides office hours or by-appointment support to students.
  • Advises students on school policies and performance.
  • Assists with recruitment and program development.
  • Maintains safety procedures and equipment in instruction sites.
  • Maintains inventory of materials and tools for automotive program.
  • Maintains professional appearance and conducts self-evaluation of instruction.
  • Meets classes on time and notifies the Dean for any absences.

**Compensation:**Based on Adjunct Pay Schedule**Compensation Type:**Salary**Employment Type:**Adjunct/Part Time Faculty (Fixed Term)**Scheduled Weekly Hours:**2.25**Grade:****Department:**Instruction**Position Summary**An adjunct instructor is appointed on a term contract for instructional, temporary and part-time assignments. They are not assigned to other responsibilities such as professional service or college service. They have no right to reappointment. Persons appointed at this rank will vary in minimal academic qualifications but generally shall have a relevant doctoral or equivalent terminal degree to teach at the upper division and graduate level, and a master’s degree for lower division courses. All degrees shall be from accredited institutions or from internationally reputable and recognized institutions. Exceptions to these requirements may be made by the Provost upon presentation of evidence of a record of experience or other credentials that indicate academic degree equivalence. Adjunct Faculty members can only serve as Faculty Senators if they teach during the current semester or have taught within the last fiscal year.**Duties & Responsibilities*** Assists with continuous improvement of the Building and Construction Technologies program, including acquisition and maintenance of relevant industry-recognized credentials;* Inputs and maintains data related to Building and Construction Technologies program courses and competency exams;* Responsible to Dean for effective classroom performance, including accurate completion and timely submission of grades.* Prepares and provides all lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum* Follows current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms for the program.* Maintains a lesson plan of daily instructional events.* Monitors student attendance and retention and documents as required by the administration.* Grades assignments, returns graded assignments to students, and assigns final grades for all students in a timely manner.* Provides educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.* Advises students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.* Assists with program development and student recruitment activities.* Employs strategies as directed by the college to effectively increasing student retention as well as student recruitment.* Complies, monitors, and maintains all safety procedures and best practices as required in the construction industry.* Monitors and maintains all equipment and supplies needed for instruction in classroom and field work sites.* Establishes and maintains inventory of materials, tools and equipment assigned to automotive program.* Maintains professional appearance at all times.* Performs all duties required to maintain a viable program.* Maintains a comprehensive plan for his/her own self-evaluation and improvement of instruction.* Responsible for service to the College and to the community* Meets classes on time and is properly prepared, notifies the Dean when ill or unable to meet such classes, and fills out such state and College forms as required to cover the absence(s).* Maintains professional conduct and behavior in the classroom and, at all times, when he/she is professionally involved with students.* Preforms other related duties as assigned**Minimum Qualifications:*** Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field.* Will have or will be willing to obtain appropriate NCCER and OSHA instructor qualifications.* Two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction or related field.* Experience may be substituted for education on a year-to-year basis.**Preferred Qualifications*** At least two (2) years experience teaching in a post-secondary or college setting.* Teaching experience in a community college setting.* Five (5) or more years of teaching experience* Experience in curriculum development, online and technology-enriched teaching, and student advising.* Experience in teacher mentoring and strong record of continuing professional development.* Experience teaching in a multicultural setting.**EEO Statement:**As an EEO employer, Santa Fe Community College will not discriminate in our employment practices based on an applicant’s race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, serious medical condition or status as a protected veteran or spousal affiliation.
