Job summary

Lone Star College-Kingwood in Kingwood, TX, seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Continuing Education courses. Primary duties include planning, developing, and teaching to meet course objectives in nursing-related programs.

Position is part-time, semester-by-semester based on student demand. Candidates should have a background in acute care, and a Texas CNA certificate; a Texas RN/LVN license or an associates degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years acute care experience in hospital or LTAC setting.
  • Texas CNA certification or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree preferred; teaching experience helpful.
  • RN or LVN license in Texas preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Continuing Education courses in patient care programs.
  • Develops and uses a course syllabus per guidelines.
  • Instructs students in lecture, lab, and clinical facilities.
  • Performs ongoing student evaluations and provides feedback.
  • Schedules classes and maintains posted office hours.

Job Description
Purpose and Scope

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide thelearning activities and support that will lead to the achievementof the course objectives and contribute to the educationalenvironment of the college and the community. Primaryresponsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within thecurriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

CE Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity onasemester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of theSystem. Lone Star College accepts application material year-roundfrom qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis.Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. Weoffer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered atvarious times and locations during the academic year. As a rule,adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academicyear.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Teaches Continuing Education courses in the Patient CareTechnician, Acute Care Technician, and other basic medical skillprograms
  2. Develops and utilizes a course syllabus for each coursefollowing established institutional guidelines
  3. Instructs students in lecture, on-site laboratory, and off-siteclinical facilities, correlating theory with the practice of basicnursing care for residents of a hospital or comparable acute carefacility
  4. Performs ongoing, written student evaluations in the form of aSkills Inventory and evaluates student comprehension byadministering written tests based on lecture/lab materials, andprovides oral and written feedback to students as appropriate
  5. Evaluates students by a variety of means to measure theirprogress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timelymanner of their progress
  6. Submits required college reports and forms
  7. Provides timely, quality access to students through postedoffice hours, electronic communication and other appropriatemethods
  8. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues,and the community
  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned

Work Schedule & Conditions
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
  • Hours will vary depending on class time; instructors arerequired to meet with classes at all scheduled times and beavailable to students outside of class instruction
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of acute care experience in a hospital or LTACsetting (Medical Surgical, Telemetry, ICU or equivalent)
  • Texas Certified Nursing Assistant Certification orequivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree
  • One year of formal teaching or industry trainingexperience
  • Current RN or LVN license in the state of Texas
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
