Summary

Adjunct Faculty refers to an educator hired to teach on a course‑by‑course basis throughout an academic year.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach up to seven semester credit hours (up to two courses) within the discipline, including any instrumental or vocal studio area, music theory, ear‑training, music history, world music, music education, music technology, general education courses, methods courses, and/or ensemble conducting. Instruction may be delivered on‑campus, off‑campus, or online and may be during the day and/or evening as dictated by student demand and departmental needs.
  • Develop and manage class syllabi and ensure they meet department and college standards.
  • Plan and create lectures, in‑class discussions, and assignments.
  • Assess grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
  • Assist/mentor students as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Music or a closely related field is required to teach undergraduate courses, or a terminal degree in Music or a closely related field is required to teach graduate courses.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to: Multi‑task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education/Skills/Experience
  • Hold current relevant professional credentials.
  • College or university teaching experience.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and/or successful performance experience.
  • Prior relevant industry experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in K‑12 music settings, as dictated by specific classroom needs.
