Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach medical laboratory technology courses on a part-time basis. The instructor will deliver classes, develop syllabi and materials, and maintain student records according to course objectives and college policies.

The role requires a strong background in Medical Laboratory Technology with ASCP MLT certification and at least 3 years of lab experience.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Join our team of dedicated laboratory professionals!Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction andassessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.Location: South BendEmployment Type: Part TimeCompensation: $47.35 Per contract HourMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and courseobjectives.Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintainsaccurate student records, grades, and other requirements.Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to apositive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing andimplementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning(curricular).Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with Collegepolicies, campus guidelines and expectations.Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and alllearning environments.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights andPrivacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:An associate degree in medical laboratory technology and at least 3 years' experience in the laboratory setting as a certified MLT; either as a laboratory generalist or in a specific department in which they will be teaching. ASCPcm MLT certification required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:A bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science and at least 3 years' experience in the laboratory setting as acertified MLS; either as a laboratory generalist or in a specific department in which they will be teaching. ASCPcm MLS certification preferred.RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS:1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technologyfor academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication withstudents, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources3. Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs,including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1for the specific area(s) of instruction.
