Job Description

The role is taught by adjunct faculty part‑time on a semester‑by‑semester basis at Lone Star College. The faculty member is responsible for providing learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Purpose and Scope

Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year to meet student demand. The faculty member is expected to provide day, evening, and weekend classes.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Teach LifePATH courses at a variety of times and locations.
  2. Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  3. Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  4. Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  5. Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  6. Evaluate students to measure progress in achieving course objectives and inform students in a timely manner of their progress.
  7. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  8. Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  9. Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. The employee typically sits comfortably to perform work. Walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts, and driving an automobile may be required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes a PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
  • Class schedules will be offered in a blocked format and developed for the convenience of the students.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with cognitive disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience implementing Universal Design.
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
