Each course at Herzing University is designed to introduce new concepts, build upon prior knowledge, provide resources, and assess student development of competencies and learning objectives. The faculty member assists students in navigating the learning process within a course.

Qualifications:

• A Master's degree in a healthcare-related field
• At least one of the following certifications:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA
  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through AHIMA
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC
• Current industry experience in a healthcare setting is required.
• Minimum of two years of healthcare operations knowledge related to insurance billing and medical coding.
• College-level teaching experience in insurance, billing, and medical coding.

Preferred experience includes:

• At least two years teaching in a remote online setting with LMS experience (Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
• At least five years of industry experience in coding

Physical Requirements:

• Remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Move readily around campus, classrooms, clinical settings, etc.
• Communicate verbally with students, staff, and colleagues.
• Observe and assess visually or otherwise.
• Operate program-specific equipment, computers, AV equipment, etc.
• Travel for off-site meetings or clinical observations.
• For clinical programs, faculty must be able to stand/walk for extended periods, reach, manipulate objects, see and hear normally, and lift up to 25 pounds.
