Each course at Herzing University is designed to introduce new concepts, build upon prior knowledge, provide supportive resources, allow students to validate and remediate personal mastery of the content, and assess student development of competencies and learning objectives. The faculty member assists students in navigating the learning process within a course.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree in a healthcare-related field
• At least one of the following certifications:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA
  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through AHIMA
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC
• Current industry experience in a healthcare setting is required.
• Minimum of two years of healthcare operations knowledge related to insurance billing and medical coding.
• College-level teaching experience in insurance, billing, and medical coding.

Preferred Experience

• At least two years teaching remotely with learning management systems like Blackboard or Canvas.
• At least five years of coding industry experience.

Physical Requirements

• Remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Move readily around campus, classrooms, or clinical settings as needed.
• Communicate verbally with students, staff, and colleagues.
• Observe and assess visually or otherwise.
• Operate program-specific equipment, including computers and clinical tools.
• Travel for off-site meetings, conferences, or clinical observations.

For programs with clinical components, faculty must also be able to stand/walk for extended periods, reach, manipulate objects, see and hear within normal limits, and lift up to 25 pounds.
