Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Humanities. This part-time role supports Theatre Appreciation and Music Appreciation courses, with duties aligned to current syllabi and college policies.

Applicants must have a master’s degree (theatre preferred) or a related field with 18 graduate hours in theatre/music. Prior college teaching is preferred. A cover letter and unofficial transcript are required with applications.

Qualifications

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in theatre or in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in theatre-related courses.
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in music or in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in music.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
  • Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.
  • Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to promote an environment that reflects the broad backgrounds represented by our students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.

Education

Master’s degree in theatre or higher or related field with 18 graduate credit hours in theatre-related courses
18 graduate semester credit hours in theatre-related courses (e.g., communication, performance studies, drama)

About the Role:

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Humanities Discipline Standard

HUMA 100 Course Standard(Theater Appreciation)

A qualified faculty member teaching theatre meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in theatre or
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in theatre-related courses (e.g., communication, performance studies, drama).

HUMA 118 Course Standard(Music Appreciation)

A qualified faculty member teaching HUMA 118 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in music or
  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in music.

Previous teaching experience is required. College-level teaching experience preferred.
