Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend, IN is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to deliver assigned courses and create engaging learning experiences in alignment with college policies and course objectives.

The role emphasizes using technology to enhance instruction, preparing syllabi and assessments, maintaining records, and supporting student success within FERPA guidelines. This is a part-time, on-site position with campus-based responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Possesses an earned associate or higher degree in Homeland Security/Public Safety or related field.
• Possesses an earned associate or higher degree in environmental science.
• Possesses current licenses/certifications or two years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
• Develops/maintains outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and tests.
• Maintains accurate student records and grades.
• Engages with students using active teaching strategies to enhance learning.
• Adheres to FERPA and campus safety procedures.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or DeanSUPERVISION GIVEN: NoneCLASSIFICATION: Part-TimeCOMPENSATION: $47.35/CONTACT HOURMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing andimplementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.3. Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).4. Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights andPrivacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possesses an earned associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Homeland Security/Public Safety, or related field; or/and Possesses an earned associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in environmental science or/and Holds a current license through Indiana Department of Environmental Management or comparable regulating agency OR/AND Possesses current State Firefighter I/II certification, or/and Possesses current State Instructor II certification, or/and Has two years of directly related work experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in Homeland Security/Public Safety, Fire Science, Environmental Management or related field, or Possesses an earned associate degree in Homeland Security/Public Safety, Fire Science,Environmental Management, with a baccalaureate or higher degree in leadership, supervision, business, or industrial/vocational education; with academic preparation appropriate to the program; orPossesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate advanced-level, state, or national certification;ANDProfessional certification in the field; orTwo years of directly related work experienceIvy Tech is committed to supporting the well-being, growth, and financial security of our part-time employees.
